Hex Bit Socket Technicals

Why use S2 steel instead of Chrome Vanadium for the bit? Chrome Vanadium is excellent for the socket body, but it is too “soft” for the high-pressure edges of a hex bit. S2 Alloy Steel is specifically formulated for impact and high-torque driver applications. It stays sharp and resists stripping much longer than standard steel.

When should I choose the 100mm (2026-4) over the 32mm (2026)? Only use the 100mm when physical distance requires it. For fasteners you can reach easily, the 32mm 2026M/A is superior because there is less “torsional twist,” giving you a more direct feel and higher power transfer. The 100mm is a specialist tool for deep-access “obstruction” work.

Are these 1/4″ drive hex sockets safe for use with cordless impact drivers? While the S2 steel is incredibly strong, these are Hand Sockets (Manual). For high-frequency impact drivers, we recommend using Hans Impact-rated series. Using manual sockets on power impact tools can lead to premature wear of the 1/4″ square drive hole.

Can these be used in oily industrial environments? Yes. The Mirror-Polished Chrome finish on the base is designed to resist corrosion from industrial oils and cooling fluids. The S2 bit is usually sandblasted or phosphate-coated to provide a high-friction “bite” even if the fastener is oily.
