Technical FAQ: 3028 XZN Bit Socket Optimization

  • Is XZN the same as Torx? No. While they look similar, XZN has 12 flat-sided points (3 overlapping squares), whereas Torx has 6 rounded lobes. Using a Torx bit on an XZN bolt will immediately strip the fastener. Always use the 3028 for 12-point spline fasteners.
  • Common Applications for 3/8″ XZN Sizes:
    • M6: Oil pan and timing cover bolts.
    • M8 & M10: Transmission bell housings, brake caliper brackets, and door hinges.
    • M12: Axle bolts and some cylinder head applications.
  • Can I use these with an Impact Wrench? No. The 3028 series are Hand Bit Sockets. For pneumatic or electric impact tools, please refer to the Hans Impact XZN (Cr-Mo) series to avoid bit failure.
  • Maintenance: Periodically check the bit tip for wear or metal deformation. Keep the drive square clean of grit to ensure a secure lock with your ratchet.
